Baby chicks

We have been learning about different types of birds for the start of spring.
This week we made chicks and nests for art.
We painted half a paper plate brown and decorated it with strips of brown paper to look like real twigs.
Next we picked our favourite three colours and cut out ovals to make three little chicks. We decorated the chicks with googly eyes and feathers.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!!

Raising of the Irish Flag

Today we raised the Irish flag in memory of the 1916 Easter Rising.
We read our own proclamation.
We all sang the National Anthem while the tricolour was raised.

Baking Easter Nests!

Today we baked some lovely edible Easter nests as a treat for our Easter Holidays.
We read the list of ingredients and steps together and gathered everything we would need.
First we melted the chocolate.
Then we took turns stirring in the Cornflakes for the nest.

After we had mixed all the cornflakes into the melted chocolate and the mixture was ready, We                                                               spooned it into bun cases.
Then we each got a turn to decorate our own bun with some eggs and baby chicks.
We think they look nearly too good to eat!!

Spring lambs!

We are learning all about the signs of spring this week.
One of our favourite signs of spring is watching the baby lambs frolicking in the fields.
As there are no farms to visit near our school, today the baby lambs came to us!
We were thrilled to meet the two lambs, Shaun and Sheila.

We got to watch the baby lambs being bottle fed.

We had a very exciting morning!!

Pancake Tuesday!

Junior Infants are preparing for a very special time of year, Lent.
For Lent we are giving up one of our favourite sweet treats and taking up doing one kind thing for someone else each day.
Before Lent we celebrate Pancake Tuesday, our last day of feasting before we give up our sweet treat.
We celebrated Pancake Tuesday by making our very own pancakes from scratch.

First our class read the recipe and gathered all the ingredients that we needed, flour, sugar, milk and eggs.
Next we followed the instructions together step by step and worked as a team to create the batter.

Teacher was in charge of cooking the batter.
When the pancakes were fried, we had a big feast.
Everyone had some pancake and their favourite topping.
Now we are ready to begin Lent tomorrow!
